Categorizing fear is calming *

With 'crushed snow' I was thinking about the idea of flow, of a current that underscores everything; a pull, a yearning.

I am working in white, which holds an awkward silence for me, it has a haunting stillness, pure and mute each piece appears like frozen buds.

Made of cement or fired clay the works are covered in intonaco fresco plaster and marble dust. Each section is coated in a ‘crushed snow’ of marble dust, affording the work a sense of fragile beauty, hovering on the page they are almost not there at all. They appear like remains or markings that might be traces of a human presence, a presence that is made more keen by their own shadows.

The drawings are made on a waxed paper which buckles with each dust mound.

The ‘crushed snow’ of their final coating is made of marble dust from Carrara, Italy. It is a tough, icy and protecting.
